Very rare and wonderful, ca1910's Chromolithograph Paper over Wood, Mechanical Pop Gun / Cork Gun / Toy Cannon Shooting Gallery Target Toy by R. Bliss Manufacturing Company of Pawtucket, Rhode Island or possibly by W.

This wonderful, Bliss Shooting Gallery Target Toy is manufactured in the form of a heavily fortified castle or fort with dozens of cannons on each of the stone walls. The parapet at the center of the top of the Fort is hinged at the base and when it is hit it falls backwards releasing a spring loaded "Surrender Flag" which pops up above the left hand tower. This fantastic Bliss Paper over Wood Shooting Gallery Target Toy measures approx.

12 3/4" tall and 15 1/2" wide at the base. The face of the Castle is made of 3 pieces of wood with the two side pieces hinged to the central panel so that the sides can be opened a bit backwards allowing the Target to stand on its own. We have been dealing in antique Toys for 37+ years now and have never seen this Shooting Gallery Target Toy before - we could find no information about this or any similar Toy of the period and believe it to be exceptionally rare. This rare and wonderful, Chromolithographed Paper-Over-Wood, Mechanical Pop Gun / Cork Gun / Toy Cannon Shooting Gallery Target Toy displays in very good condition.

The paste down, chromolithograph surface exhibits soiling and some minor paper loss at the edges but the colors are well preserved and the Target displays nicely. The Target lacks its original white flag and flag pole but replacements could be made easily.
