IT WILL ONLY APPRECIATE IN VALUE BECAUSE OF ITS RARENESS AND SUPERLATIVE PATINA. NOTE: The main spring and trigger springs are strong however the arms don't stay over the monkey's head when cocked. Cocking is never recommended for any vintage cap shooter because, after 130+ years, the springs become too brittle may break. NOTE: THIS AMERICAN MADE TOY FIRST APPEARED IN POST CIVIL WAR RECONSTRUCTION PERIOD AROUND 1890. IT APPEARS TO BE IN UNFIRED CONDITION.

IT HAS BEEN IN MY PERSONAL COLLECTION FOR OVER 18 YEARS. This 126 year old cast iron Cap Shooter named "MONKEY AND COCONUT" is in "C7" condition with absolutely no repairs or modifications. The main spring is fully functional.

The trigger spring has tension and the wonderful surface patina reflects great care over the years. This cap gun is a fine example of an American Heritage child's cast iron toy and was manufactured just twenty five years after the end of the Civil War in America. It would make an interesting conversation piece framed and hung on the wall as decorative historical art. Whether you are a seasoned collector or just beginning, this "MONKEY AND COCONUT" would surely complement your collection.
