For sale here is a toy cap gun. It has the, permanently attached, orange plug required by law for toy guns.

I have been collecting toy cap guns for most of my adult life. I offer now a really nice example of the Nichols Stallion 45 cap gun. Collectors call it the MK I second generation. It was made in Pasadena, TX. It is an antique cap gun.

The Nichols Stallion 45 has been described as King of all the cap guns and this first model won "Toy of the Year" at the NY Toy fair in 1950. It is a full size replica of the gun it was meant to emulate, a Colt 45. I don't want to over "hype" this one, but I feel it would be hard to find one these in this condition after nearly 70 years. The fit of the parts are as tight as it gets for this model. T operates properly with a "butter" smooth action.

The grips are crack free and the chrome parts are in excellent condition. You will not be disappointed with this one.

A word about the operation and testing of a Nichols toy cap gun. Apparently they were dry fired a lot by well-meaning collectors and children and this can damage the gun. Every time I read a listing that says operates properly, pulling the trigger results in a loud snap from the hammer. Dry firing a Nichols cap gun, without the original two part toy bullets, is really bad as the hammer may crack the frame where it strikes. So one day that loud snap someone hears on pulling the trigger may be the frame cracking.

The shock of the hammer fall onto the frame can also dislodge integral springs. I test my guns, with my thumb on the hammer by confirming the trigger contacts the hammer. Also by pulling the hammer back, with my thumb to confirm the cylinder rotates as designed. I never dry fire these guns to confirm these operational features. Their playing with days should be over.

They are passing from history and should be carefully preserved. I will be listing several very nice and interesting items in the next few days, the item here is but one of them.
