In this listing we are offering a pleasing & attractive cast iron "KING" toy cap pistol gun. The grip has two flower-like decorations as well as other ornate designs in the castings.
The toy has the word "KING" raised on the side in the casting. This toy cap pistol was made by the J.
Stevens Toy Company of Cromwell, Connecticut circa 1880 or so. An example of this toy cap pistol is listed as # K5 & is shown on pages 84/85 in the 1973 edition of the classic reference book "Cast Iron Toy Pistols" by Charles Best. The pistol has a very dark patina from age & use combined with dark rust & some surface pitting. Also, there is a crack on the left side of the barrel where the rivet is located.
The head of rivet on the left side of the handle has been re-peened. But, the other side of the rivet has the original factory peening intact.The example we are offering is complete & is in sound operational condition. The length is 4 7/8 inches & the weight is 3.6 ounces. This item is inventory #11,455.
