1890 IVES HERO IRON TOY CAP PISTOL, LISTED BEST BOOK, #H8.1 page 68, VERY RARE

  

In this listing we are offering an interesting & rare Ives Toy Company circa 1890 or so cast iron toy "HERO" cap pistol. The "HERO" lettering is raised in the castings ion both sides of the toy.

The grip is ornately decorated in the castings. This toy was made circa 1890 or so. We would have thought that this cap pistol is more likely to date from circa 1880 than from 1890. But, 1890 is the date shown in the book. It was made by the Ives Toy Co.

There is no example of this rare toy cap pistol listed in the 1973 edition of the Charles Best "Cast Iron Toy Pistols" book. The example we are offering has lots of the original transparent finish, & a dark, rich, & appealing patina from age.

There are no cracks, no chips, & no repairs. The spring is broken and the hammer does not cock back. This toy cap pistol is complete but non operational condition. The length is mentioned as 3 3/4 inches long in the book & our example also measures 3 3/4 inches long.

The weight is 2.2 ounces. Item is for restore parts or just as is. Not for sure of it authenticity I received in in a lot with a bunch of other older cap guns. Please blow up all pictures.
