Half Track & Field Gun. An exceptional and ultra-rare German pre-WW2 Period Tinplate Halftrack & Howitzer Artillery Set. This is a superbly detailed tin plate clockwork Tipp & Co. SdKfz 6 half track towing a 10.5 cm leFH 18 howitzer via a 2 wheel bogey.
All peices are lithographed in the pre-war 3 tone (sand, dark brown and dark green) camoflague. The 9 original composite figures are included. The halftrack is in full working condition, and I particularly like the chain link tracks. It is in very good condition - though the gun elevation needs tightening - with only slight scratches and very minimal damage to paintwork (see images below).
The SdKfz 6 (Sonderkraftfahrzeug 6) was a half-track military vehicle used by the German Wehrmacht during the Second World War. It was designed to be used as the main towing vehicle for the 10.5 cm leFH 18 howitzer. However it proved far too expensive and was phased out in 1941 for more economic halftracks. Existing SdKfz 6's were maintained in the German army afterwards.
10.5 cm leFH 18 howitzer. The 10.5 cm leFH 18 was the standard divisional field howitzer used by the Wehrmacht during the Second World War. It was designed and developed by Rheinmetall in 1929-30 and entered service with the Wehrmacht in 1935. Generally it did not equip independent artillery battalions until after the Battle of Stalingrad in 1943. The half track measures 22cm (9 inches) long by 9cm (3.5 inches) wide by 9cm (3.5 inches) tall. The howitzer measures 28cm (11 inches) long by 9cm (3.5 inches) wide by 12cm (4.5 inches) tall. When set up the set is 55cm (21 inches) long. For further details and condition see pictures below... The item "Pre-WW2 Tipp & Co. Half Track & Field Gun" is in sale since Sunday, September 05, 2010.
